Stellar’s Updated Hybrid Power Source (HPS)

Watch as Tim Worman explains how Stellar Industries has updated its HPS, or hybrid power source. It is now more modular and allows for efficient, noiseless operation of hydraulic tools without idling.

March 24, 2026

Join Work Truck as Tim Worman from Stellar Industries walks us through the latest updates to the HPS, or hybrid power source. Although it was first introduced in 2020, the HPS is now more modular and allows for efficient, noiseless operation of hydraulic tools without idling.

The 13.5 kWh, 48V energy pack can last four to eight hours and can be charged from the truck or a generator. The HPS is compatible with various chassis and can be scaled for future needs, offering flexibility and reduced carbon footprint without traditional EV chassis drawbacks.

In this video, you will hear about:

  • The goal is to achieve carbon neutrality by using a traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) chassis for transportation and the HPS for on-site operations, reducing emissions.

  • This flexibility enables operators to reduce their carbon footprint without the drawbacks of a traditional EV chassis.

  • The HPS uses a lithium-ion battery pack to drive an electric motor with a hydraulic pump, allowing hydraulic crane and air compressor operation without the truck running.

  • The system can operate in electric-only mode or in a combination of electric and hydraulic modes, depending on job-site requirements.

  • This setup provides efficiency and noise reduction, beneficial for urban job sites with noise sensitivity.

  • The 48V system is safer for field mechanics who are not accustomed to handling high-voltage systems.
