Born From a Jobsite Near-Miss
Founder Michael Ruhs developed TailHand after a close call with a running chainsaw when it shifted from the bare surface of his tailgate, striking his leg. That incident revealed to Ruhs the need for a safer and more stable work surface in the field.
“We built TailHand to give pros the stability and precision of a shop bench — at the drop of their tailgate, wherever the job takes them,” Ruhs said.
Award-Winning Innovation and Patented Design
TailHand earned top honors, including the SEMA Truck & Off-Road Alliance Best New Product and TORA Best New Product awards. Its patented design, awarded in February 2025, ensures a unique, multi-engagement securing surface that delivers versatility and reliability in the field.
TailHand was recently featured on The Truck Show Podcast, a leading voice in the pickup truck community. The episode showcased the founders discussing the product’s innovative design, real-world impact, and journey to market — further amplifying TailHand’s presence among truck enthusiasts and skilled trades professionals.
Built to Withstand Heavy Loads
Constructed from CNC-machined 1/8-inch powder-coated American aluminum, TailHand is reinforced to support heavy equipment and withstand pressures such as ATVs rolling over it while loading or unloading. The company said that tradespeople also trust its rugged durability under tough worksite demands.

Easy Installation and Tool Compatibility
TailHand fits almost all full-size pickup tailgates and flatbed trucks, installs in less than 30 minutes with included hardware and no special tools, and doesn’t interfere with tailgate functions. It integrates smoothly with existing bench clamps, bench dogs, and jigs professionals already own. No proprietary gear is needed.

With built-in T-tracks and bench-dog holes, the workstation stabilizes stock materials and power tools for faster, safer jobs, the company said in a press release.
“TailHand delivers unmatched stability and precision, making tough jobs faster and more accurate,” said Alex Forer, owner of Larry Meyer Construction.
Availability and Early Adopter Offer
Currently, TailHand is available direct-to-consumer via its website and drop-ship to fleet managers and upfit managers. However, it will launch with specialty retailers AmericanTrucks.com and ExtremeTerrain.com in mid-to-late September.
Family-Owned and Made in America
TailHand is designed in Park Falls, Wisconsin, and manufactured in Wausau, Wisconsin. The company said this reflects its commitment to local quality and the hardworking professionals who keep America running.
