Under rules set by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, commercial drivers are not allowed to hold or reach for a hand-held mobile telephone. According to the FMCSA’s own data, the odds of being involved in an accident or near accident are six times greater for drivers who engage with a mobile phone while driving.
