Small Businesses Get Logo on NASCAR Rides for a Chance to Win $1 Million

Getting a logo onto a NASCAR vehicle isn’t cheap — unless you win it. Bales Mold Service Inc. in Downers Grove, Ill., entered an Office Depot lottery and, after winning the draw, the company’s logo was emblazoned on Greg Biffle’s No. 16 3M car for the Sept. 6 Sprint Cup race in Atlanta.
Sara Mortensen, owner of Bales and its three-vehicle pickup and delivery fleet for the mold plate and polish company, was one of two lottery winners. The other was Huckleberry Pets in Ormond Beach, Fla., which had its logo on Tony Stewart’s No. 14 Office Depot car.

The two companies had the chance at winning $1 million at the Sprint Cup, which was postponed from Sept. 4, if their driver took the top slot. While neither won the race, the drawing winners received $10,000 to spend at Office Depot. “It’s surprisingly hard to spend $10,000,” Mortensen says.
Bales' car finished at 12th, while Huckleberry Pets finished highest between the two companies at third place, making it the 2011 “Official Small Business of NASCAR, Courtesy of Office Depot.” Jeff Gordon's No. 24 car completed the race in first place.
