In December 2024, what recalls are out there that you need to know about, and which ones might impact your fleet? Work Truck has the answers in this comprehensive overview of recent recalls issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Pickup Truck, Van & SUV

Chrysler

  • Recall Number: B8B

  • Vehicles: 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L

  • Potential Units Affected: 7,198

  • Component: Electrical system

  • Breakdown: A software error in the instrument panel cluster may cause the speedometer to display the incorrect vehicle speed.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect and update the instrument panel cluster software as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Dec. 17, 2024.

  • Recall Number: 94B

  • Vehicles: 2018-2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango

  • Potential Units Affected: 206,502

  • Component: Service brakes, hydraulic

  • Breakdown: A malfunction in the antilock-brake system (ABS) module may incorrectly illuminate the brake lights and disable the ABS and electronic stability control (ESC). In addition, the vehicle operator may be able to start and shift out of Park without the brake pedal being applied.

  • Solution: The remedy is currently under development. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on Dec. 5, 2024.

Ford 

  • Recall Number: 24S71

  • Vehicles: 2024 Ranger

  • Potential Units Affected: 65

  • Component: Fuel system, gasoline

  • Breakdown: The fuel vapor line bracket may have insufficient clearance to the fuel vapor line, which can result in fuel vapor line damage that can lead to a fuel vapor leak.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect for a fuel vapor line bracket and install a tie strap to secure the fuel vapor line to the bracket, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed Nov. 20, 2024.

  • Recall Number: 24S70

  • Vehicles: 2024-2025 F-150, 2024 Expedition and 2024 Lincoln Navigator

  • Potential Units Affected: 2,418

  • Component: Engine and engine cooling

  • Breakdown: The engines may have a misaligned engine cup plug, which can result in a rapid oil leak.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect the engine cup plug alignment, and replace the plug if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Dec. 2, 2024.

  • Recall Number: 24C39

  • Vehicles: 2020-2025 Explorer, Lincoln Aviator, 2020-2024 Escape, Lincoln Corsair, 2018-2024 F-150, Expedition and Lincoln Navigator 

  • Potential Units Affected: 27,678

  • Component: Equipment

  • Breakdown: The air bag warning label may be missing from the dashboard.

  • Solution: Ford will mail owners the warning labels, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Dec. 16, 2024. 

General Motors

  • Recall Number: N242481860

  • Vehicles: 2024 Chevrolet Express Commercial Cutaway and GMC Savana Commercial Cutaway

  • Potential Units Affected: 582

  • Component: Back over prevention

  • Breakdown: These vehicles may be missing the required rear vision camera video display because an incorrect inside rearview mirror was installed.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect and replace the inside rearview mirror as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Dec. 30, 2024.

  • Recall Number: N242454440

  • Vehicles: 2020-2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2500, 3500, GMC Sierra 1500, 2500, 3500, 2021 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with diesel engines.

  • Potential Units Affected: 461,839

  • Component: Powertrain

  • Breakdown: The transmission control valve may fail and cause the rear wheels to lock-up.

  • Solution: Dealers will install new transmission control module software, free of charge. GM will provide a special coverage program to cover the repair of transmissions that are identified by the remedy software as containing a defective control valve. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Dec. 9, 2024.

Rivian

  • Recall Number: FSAM-1552

  • Vehicles: 2025 R1T and R1S 

  • Potential Units Affected: 5,128

  • Component: Electrical system, exterior lighting

  • Breakdown: Software version 2024.39.30 may prevent certain exterior lights from turning on when the Car Costume feature is activated.

  • Solution: Rivian has released an over-the-air (OTA) software update, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Dec. 18, 2024.

Tesla

  • Recall Number: SB-24-40-009

  • Vehicles: 2024 Cybertruck

  • Potential Units Affected: 2,431

  • Component: Electrical system

  • Breakdown: A fault in the drive inverter may cause a loss of drive power to the wheels.

  • Solution: Tesla service will replace the drive inverter, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Jan. 4, 2025.

Medium- & Heavy-Duty Recalls

Altec

  • Recall Number: CSN-3194

  • Vehicles: 2022-2024 AC series cranes

  • Potential Units Affected: 800

  • Component: Equipment

  • Breakdown: The crane outrigger shoes may have been improperly manufactured, which can cause them to crack and fail under load, reducing the cranes stability.

  • Solution: Altec will replace the outrigger shoes, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Dec. 30, 2024.

Autocar

  • Recall Number: ACTT-2402

  • Vehicles: 2023-2025 ACTT (Xspotter) 

  • Potential Units Affected: 104

  • Component: Electrical system, vehicle speed control

  • Breakdown: A software error may allow the vehicle to exceed the speed governor limit.

  • Solution: Dealers will update the vehicle and drive motor software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Dec. 27, 2024.

International

  • Recall Number: 24515

  • Vehicles: 2021-2024 Lonestar, 2021-2025 RH, HV, MV, LT, HX, and 2022 PROSTAR vehicles, equipped with Bendix EC80 Advanced Electronic Control Units (ECU)

  • Potential Units Affected: 105,276

  • Component: Electrical system, service brakes, air

  • Breakdown: Electrical noise and low signal to the power line carrier may cause the ECU to incorrectly process commands or stop working.

  • Solution: International will work with Bendix to reprogram the ECU software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Dec. 23, 2024.

  • Recall Number: 24516

  • Vehicles: 2024-2025 HX

  • Potential Units Affected: 74

  • Component: Powertrain

  • Breakdown: An insufficient amount of lubricant in the front steer drive (FSD) axle hubs may result in damage to the wheel bearings.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect the lubricant levels, and add lubricant or replace parts as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Dec. 30, 2024.

Nikola

  • Recall Number: 24VDC0903

  • Vehicles: 2022-2023 Tre BEV

  • Potential Units Affected: 72

  • Component: Electrical system

  • Breakdown: A resistor may degrade, causing the instrument panel to fail.

  • Solution: Dealers will replace the instrument panel, free of charge. Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed Nov. 22, 2024.
