With limited vehicle availability today, fleets need to start thinking outside the box, says Chip Cooper, owner of Cooper Motor Company. One new entry into the ProMaster family is the 2023 Ram ProMaster Super High-Roof cargo van. Cooper Motor showcased the van at the DeliveryCon Expo in Las Vegas Oct. 16-18.

Spec'd on the 3500 model with 159-inch wheelbase, the Super High-Roof van has an interior height over 7 ft. and a cargo length of 13 ft. For cargo storage, the van has a volume of 520 cubic feet, more room than both the 2023 Ford Transit at 487 cubic feet with a high roof, and the 2024 raised roof Mercedes Sprinter at 374 cubic feet. The cargo width of 75.6 inches can accommodate a standard pallet loaded from a forklift.

“It can replace a lot of small box trucks at that size,” says Cooper, adding that the front-wheel drive vehicle offers a better turning radius and fuel economy.

The cargo Extended High Roof version can be spec'd on the ProMaster 3500 for an additional $3655 (over the 3500 High Roof 159 WB).

The 2023 Ram Promaster van features a cargo volume of 520 cubic feet. The van can fit a ladder rack in the interior and still leave standing room.

A Look at the Interior

For delivery applications, the Super-High Roof interior can be spec'd with two rows of aluminum fold-up shelves, allowing larger storage items to be placed on the floor with space for smaller items to be placed on the shelves. This is a benefit over standard-roof vans, in which the racks would have to be flipped up to accommodate larger items.

In addition, the Super-High Roof can be upfitted with an interior ladder mount for contracting and vocational applications, which are a benefit to driver ergonomics and equipment security. “There is no need for it to be externally mounted, you can get to it so much easier from the interior roof,” says Greg Jackson, national fleet sales manager at Cooper Motor Company.

The Super-High Roof can also be optioned with a roll-up rear door, an exclusive for this model.

This model is in a limited production run, with production for 2024 models having recently started at the beginning of November. For fleets, that means ordering early. “Right now, the biggest thing outside of demand or supplies, is getting them here,” Cooper says.
