TravRoute, a division ALK Technologies, Inc., developers of worldwide transportation technology solutions, has announced that its Pocket CoPilot 3.0 GPS Jacket Edition has successfully completed "Certified by HP" testing for iPAQ Pocket PC options and accessories. According to the company, the certification ensures hardware and software compatibility with various models of the HP iPAQ Pocket PC platform. The company says to earn this distinction, the Pocket CoPilot GPS navigation system from TravRoute passed a set of independent and best practice testing procedures performed by Ajilon Consulting Labs. In late 2002, Ajilon Consulting Labs, a division of IT service firm Ajilon Consulting, was named the exclusive software testing facility for the HP Certified testing program. To gain certification, hardware and software developers must submit their devices to Ajilon Consulting Lab's Nashua, N.H. facility, where they are evaluated to determine usability with HP iPAQ Pocket PC platforms. Presently, the company says Pocket CoPilot is the first and only product to hold HP Certified status. In addition to this honor, the certification authorizes ALK Technologies to use HP Certified insignia on all CoPilot promotional material, including advertising, Web pages, collateral and product packaging. "This is another significant achievement for CoPilot," said Dan St. John, director Product Management at ALK Technologies. "CoPilot's commitment to delivering users in North America and Europe the most accurate and reliable GPS navigation system available on the market today is reaffirmed by HP certification." "We developed the HP Certified testing program to specifically identify quality products for our HP iPAQ Pocket PC product family," said David McAfee, manager of the iPAQ Developer Program, HP Personal Systems Group. "Pocket CoPilot is the first to emerge from this stringent process and currently the only product authorized to bear the HP Certified insignia. It is an indispensable tool that saves valuable time on business or pleasure trips." The HP Certified insignia covers Pocket CoPilot use in North America and Europe. CoPilot is an in-vehicle GPS navigation system that offers turn-by-turn driving directions and automatic route recalculation within seconds of going off route. Exclusive new features include: Text-to-Speech capability which translates information on the screen to a voice output for driving instructions; Pocket Outlook Integration that lets users enter an Outlook contact as a destination; a Detour feature allowing users to view alternate routes, including the difference in time and distance, and determine whether or not to take it; and Selective Routing to avoid entire road segments with one click.
