Trailer Boats magazine has announced the selection of the all-new Nissan Titan pickup as the "2004 Tow Vehicle of the Year" in its March 2004 issue, beating out the redesigned Ford F-150 and Chevy Silverado 1500. The Titan is Nissan's first entry into the full-size truck market and went on sale in early December 2003 at Nissan dealerships nationwide. "Non-towing ride and handling of the Titan was excellent; its styling is fresh and bold, and it is priced very competitively," said Trailer Boats Automotive Editor Stuart Bourdon. "The Titan's overall towing performance and towing ride and handling were tops and extremely well received among our testers." In the 22nd annual tow vehicle competition, five ½-ton 4WD pickups competed in several tests. After weeks of data gathering and towing a 7,840-pound trailer/boat, the editors voted unanimously in favor of the new Nissan Titan. The Nissan Titan has a maximum towing capacity of 9,500 lbs. "We built the Titan on the foundation of full-size and full-power to handle big-time towing," said Mark McNabb, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division. "It's a great honor to receive recognition for this in a very competitive field of full-size trucks." Titan's Tow Vehicle of the Year award comes on the heels of being named Four Wheeler Truck of the Year. "These two major magazine awards validate two of Titan's key strengths - towing capability and off-road prowess," said McNabb. Titan has received several other significant awards including: Sport Truck Magazine Truck of the Year; Edmunds.com "Most Significant Vehicle of the Year" for 2004; and named Automobile Magazine "2004 All-Star." The Nissan Titan will be displayed at the 48th annual Los Angeles Boat Show, which runs Jan. 24 through Feb. 1. The show is one of the largest and most influential boat shows on the West Coast. The event encompasses more than 500,000 square-feet of exhibit space featuring approximately 400 exhibitors with more than one thousand crafts on display from around the nation. Every 2004 Titan features a 305-horsepower/379 lb.-ft. torque-rated 5.6-liter Nissan Endurance V8 engine, standard 5-speed automatic transmission and a variety of available options. The Titan is offered in two body styles, Titan King Cab, with its innovative Wide-Open rear doors that open 168 degrees for easier passenger and cargo access to the rear compartment, and Titan Crew Cab, with four full-size doors and a generous cabin that offers best-in-class overall interior room, headroom and legroom. Both the King Cab and Crew Cab also offer class-exclusive spray-in bedliner and Utili-track bed channel tie-down system and are available in a choice of 2-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive and in three trim levels, XE, SE and LE.
