Mercedes Premieres New smart fortwo at NAIAS in Detroit
Roger Penske and UnitedAuto Group will serve as distribution partner to bring the smart fortwo to the U.S. market in 2008.
The new smart fortwo, premiered at this year's North American International Auto Show in Detroit, will be available in the U.S. beginning in the first quarter of 2008. The car shown in Detroit is a European version of the new smart fortwo. smart, like Mercedes-Benz and Maybach, is part of the Mercedes Car Group, which says that the new smart fortwo is more comfortable, agile, safer and more environmentally friendly than its predecessor. With rising fuel prices and increasing city traffic, the compact two-seater could quickly gain traction in the U.S., as it did in Europe following its launch in October 1998, according to Mercedes. The fortwo is designed to meet American customer needs and registration standards, according to the company. Roger Penske and UnitedAuto Group will serve as distribution partner to bring the smart fortwo to the U.S. market in 2008. smart USA is currently reviewing market data to determine dealership locations. Dealer organizations will be announced during the second half of 2007.
