Mercedes-Benz has introduced the 2016 Sprinter Worker that's priced about $4,000 below the existing base model with a leasing program aimed at smaller fleets and owner-operators.

The Sprinter Worker, which debuts at the Chicago Auto Show, starts at $33,490. Mercedes-Benz is aiming the model "at the heart of the commercial van market for plumbers, electricians, general contractors, and HVAC specialists," according to a release.

The Sprinter Worker offers a simpler configuration with one available color, roof height, length, and engine. The van is offered with a white exterior, black trim and interior canvas seating, standard roof, a 144-inch length, and the 2.1L inline-four cylinder diesel. The engine delivers power through a 7-speed automatic transmission.

The Sprinter Worker comes with a 20,000-mile service interval.

Mercedes-Benz is also offering a leasing package, including a retail loan, TRAC lease, zero TRAC lease, fair market value lease, or complete advantage lease.

The retail loan is a fixed-payment financing program that locks in an interest rate. The TRAC lease is an open-end lease that doesn't include charges for excess mileage or wear and tear. The zero TRAC lease reaches a zero-dollar amortization at lease termination. The fair market lease is a closed-end lease also known as a walkaway lease. The complete advantage lease includes coverage for preventive maintenance and
replacement of common wear items, plus an extended limited warranty with a fixed monthly payment.

The Sprinter Worker also includes several optional equipment choices. Buyers can add one of three packages, including the Convenience Package for $1,499, Utility Package for $2,999, and Overtime Package for $4,499.

The Convenience Package includes heated power mirrors, cruise control, automatic light and rain sensor (for windshield wipers), multifunction steering wheel with enhanced info screen and trailer hitch prewiring.

The Utility Package adds a wood cargo floor, rear step, LED lights in cargo compartment, two additional keys (four total), glass in rear cargo doors and grab-handles (left/right rear door).

The Overtime Package adds an upgraded audio system, high-beam assist, blind spot assist, rear-view camera, first-aid kit and emergency flashlight.

Fleets can begin ordering the Sprinter Worker on Feb. 11. Deliveries will begin in about two months, according to Mercedes-Benz.
