Lincoln helped ignite the luxury sport utility vehicle boom, but its attempt to do the same for pickups has apparently fizzled, according to the Detroit Free Press. The Lincoln Blackwood will go out of production in December, after most upscale buyers turned up their noses at the $51,785 pickup. It was Lincoln that first anticipated the luxury SUV boom with its 1998 Navigator. Cadillac, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and other rivals quickly weighed in with high-priced, super size haulers. According to published reports, only 379 units of the Lincoln Blackwood have sold since the model's debut last November. In comparison, the Cadillac Escalade EXT sold 2,236 units in the same November-to-February time period. Both luxury pickups are priced in the $50,000 range.
