Kenworth Truck Company says it has earned the ISO 9001:2000 certification for the design, manufacture and assembly of its heavy duty and medium duty trucks. ISO 9001 is an internationally recognized quality management system standard. According to the company, the new 2000 revision emphasizes the importance of a process-based approach in achieving customer satisfaction. Under the standard, a company is required to measure and monitor customer satisfaction and continually improve its products and processes. Kenworth was previously certified under the ISO 9001: 1994 standard. "Achieving ISO 9001:2000 status is really all about exceeding customer expectations," said Paul Erdy, Kenworth's director of quality. "Kenworth's certification to this challenging ISO measuring stick further helps to demonstrate that our products and services truly live up to our reputation as the World's Best." In order to achieve certification, a company must demonstrate to a third-party auditor that its quality management system meets requirements in specific areas of operation, including management responsibility, resource management, product realization and measurement, analysis and improvement. Third-party audits focus on objective evidence that a company meets the standard. Kenworth's audit was conducted by SGS International Certification Services, Inc., a quality registrar. Kenworth Truck Company, a division of PACCAR Inc, is a manufacturer of heavy and medium duty trucks. Kenworth's Internet home page is at www.kenworth.com.
