At a press event in San Diego this week, General Motors unveiled its new subcompact crossover, the 2015 Chevrolet Trax.

Chevrolet will offer a fleet package of the 2015 Trax based on the LS trim level. The fleet version will be more customizable than the retail LS model and comes in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive, according to GM.

GM said the Trax will officially launch in January with some dealerships receiving models as soon as December. GM has been selling versions of the Trax globally since 2013 but it has made adjustments for the U.S. market, including improved sound dampening and suspension tuning.

The Trax features an EcoTec 1.4L turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 138 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque which peaks at a low 1,850 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. GM said the front-wheel drive model will see up to 26 mpg city and 34 mpg on the highway.

At the press event attended by Business Fleet, General Motors representatives said they see the Trax taking the place of the Chevrolet HHR in small fleets, with fold-down front passenger and rear seats allowing flexibility for up to 48.4 cubic feet of cargo space. The Trax will have a starting MSRP of $20,995 for the base LS trim with front-wheel drive.
