The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety came out with another round of crash-test results last week, bringing early Christmas cheer to the European and Japanese makers of five small and mid-size cars. But the real action on the crash-test front is coming in with the New Year, according to the Wall Street Journal. The Insurance Institute's latest tests gave "good" and "best pick" ratings to five cars: the 2002 Suzuki Aerio, the 2003 Toyota Corolla, the 2003 Honda Accord, the 2002 Audi A4 and, surprisingly, BMW's 2002 Mini Cooper -- one of the smallest production vehicles for sale in the United States. So far this year, all the mid-sized and small cars the Insurance Institute (www.hwysafety.org) has crash-tested have earned a good rating. Worth noting, according to the Journal, is that all of the "best picks" on the Institute's list of small and midsize cars are made by Japanese or German car makers.
