GM’s Cadillac brand said the all-new 2014 Cadillac CTS, which the company plans to debut at the New York International Auto Show, will feature a new engine, a twin-turbo V-6, along with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
GM said it also plans to offer a 2.0L turbocharged engine, and a naturally aspirated 3.6L V-6 in addition to the twin-turbo. As another transmission option, GM will offer a six-speed automatic.
The automaker said the new twin-turbo V-6 engine is SAE-rated at 420 hp and 430 lb. ft. of torque and is the most powerful V-6 engine ever built by GM, according to the company. The company said a pair of smaller turbochargers and an air cooler provides more immediate power, and approximately 90% of the engine’s peak torque is available between 2,500 rpm to 5,500 rpm. Top speed with this engine is 170 mph and the new CTS sedan can go from 0 to 60 mph in an estimated 4.6 seconds.
Fuel-economy-wise, the new twin-turbo V-6 can get up to 17 mpg city, 25 highway, based on GM estimates. The naturally aspirated engine can get up to 19 city, 28 highway for the rear-wheel drive model and 18 city, 27 highway for the all-wheel-drive model. For the turbocharged 2.0L engine, fuel economy is 19 city, 30 highway for the rear-wheel drive model and 18 city, 28 highway for the all-wheel drive version.
