Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling an estimated 295,981 2019 to 2020 Ram 1500 vehicles because the flash memory of the occupant restraint controller may become corrupted, disabling the vehicle's air bags and seat belt pretensioners.

In the event of a collision, disabled air bags and seat belt pretensioners increase the likelihood of injury.

To fix the problem, FCA will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the controller or replace it if necessary, at no cost to owners.

The recall begins July 20. Owners may contact FCA US customer service at (800) 853-1403. FCA's reference numbers for this recall are V61 and V71.
