Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling an estimated 52 2019 Ram 1500 pickups and 2019 Jeep Wrangler compact SUVs because the steering column stub shafts may break and cause the wheel to detach from the column.

In the event the steering wheel detaches from the column, the driver may lose control of the vehicle, which increases the likelihood of a collision.

To fix the problem, FCA will notify owners and dealers will inspect the steering column, replacing it as necessary, at no cost to owners.

The recall begins May 3. Owners can reach FCA US customer service at (800) 853-1403. The number for this recall is V29.
