Toyota's 2020 Tacoma will add plenty of technology upgrades even on its base model that has been popular with pest control fleets, landscapers, and tradesmen as part of a facelift for the leading midsize pickup, Toyota announced at the Chicago Auto Show.

All Tacomas will now receive an upgraded audio system and larger touchscreen, while each trim grade will receive specific improvements.

The base SR adds an infotainment upgrade with a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and SiriusXM. Other new features include an updated grille design, intermittent wipers, and revised taillights with an optional LED bed light.

"The Tacoma does very well in the pest control, landscaping company, and tradesmen segments," said Eric Booth, senior manager, corporate communications for Toyota. "Our customers appreciate Tacoma’s styling, high resale value, and functionality that meets their business needs along with Toyota Safety Sense technology to help keep their drivers safe behind the steering wheel."

Toyota will offer its 2020 Tacoma in six grades that include more than 30 different configurations with two cabs, two engines, and rear- or all-wheel drive. For 2020, Toyota is bringing back its Tacoma TRD Pro, an off-road variant that's designed to provide greater off-road performance.

The Tacoma is still powered by a 2.7L four-cylinder that achieves 159 hp and 180 lb.-ft. of torque or a 278-hp 3.5L V-6 (265 lb.-ft.). Both are paired with standard 6-speed automatic transmissions. The fleet-preferred Access Cab models ride on a 127.4-inch wheelbase with a 6-foot bed. The Double Cab models can be purchased with a 127.4-inch wheelbase with a 5-foot bed or 140.6-inch wheelbase with a 6-foot bed.

Tacomas powered by the V-6 include a standard tow package with a Class IV receiver hitch and trailer sway control, among other features. When properly equiped, the Tacoma can pull up to 6,800 pounds.
