Nissan North America is recalling 44,264 2016- and 2017-model year Nissan Titan Crew Cab and Titan XD Crew Cab pickup trucks because of faulty seat belts, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
In these trucks, the rear seat belt assembly might fail to adequately protect the occupant’s head during a crash, NHTSA warned on its website. The occupant’s head may contact the D-ring bolt trim cap and cause an injury.
To fix the problem, Nissan dealers will install energy-absorbing material to the C-pillar finishers and replace the seat belt bolt and bolt cap. There will be no charge for this service.
The recall is expected to begin Sept. 26. Truck owners can reach Nissan customer service at (800) 647-7261.
