In January 2025, what recalls are out there that you need to know about, and which ones might impact your fleet? Work Truck has the answers in this comprehensive overview of recent recalls issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recalls are categorized as either pickup truck, van, and SUV recalls, or medium- and heavy-duty truck recalls, and the manufacturers are listed in alphabetical order.

Pickup Truck, Van & SUV

Chrysler

  • Recall Number: D1B

  • Vehicles: 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L 

  • Potential Units Affected: 631

  • Component: Engine and engine cooling, structure, fuel system, gasoline

  • Breakdown: The radiator crossmember bolts may not be properly secured, which can lead to improper air bag deployments and a fuel leak during a crash.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect and secure the crossmember bolts as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Jan. 9, 2025. 

  • Recall Number: D4B

  • Vehicles: 2025 Ram 1500

  • Potential Units Affected: 53

  • Component: Exterior lighting, electrical system

  • Breakdown: Incorrect headlight module software may cause the headlights to become inoperative.

  • Solution: Dealers will update the headlight module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Jan. 21, 2025. 

  • Recall Number: D5B

  • Vehicles: 2024 Jeep Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer, Grand Cherokee, and Grand Cherokee L 

  • Potential Units Affected: 79,365

  • Component: Backover prevention

  • Breakdown: Incorrect software in the rearview camera module may cause the rearview camera image not to display.

  • Solution: Dealers will update the rearview camera module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Jan. 21, 2025. 

  • Recall Number: B3B

  • Vehicles: 2022-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2021-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee L 

  • Potential Units Affected: 14

  • Component: Airbags

  • Breakdown: An improperly secured connector for the front seat side air bags (SAB) may prevent the air bags from deploying. 

  • Solution: Dealers secured the connector, free of charge. All affected vehicles have been remedied. Owner notification letters were mailed Dec. 17, 2024.

  • Recall Number: C4B

  • Vehicles: 2017-2018 Ram 2500 Pickup, Ram 3500 Pickup, 3500 Cab Chassis, 4500 and 5500 Cab Chassis

  • Potential Units Affected: 317,630

  • Component: Service brakes, hydraulic

  • Breakdown: The hydraulic control unit (HCU) may fail, which can cause the anti-lock brake (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), and traction control systems to fail.

  • Solution: Dealers will replace the brake HCU, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Jan. 9, 2025.

Daimler Vans

  • Recall Number: VS3BELKOM

  • Vehicles: 2019-2022 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter

  • Potential Units Affected: 697

  • Component: Electrical system

  • Breakdown: The instrument cluster illumination may not be adjustable and appear too bright in certain lighting conditions.

  • Solution: Dealers will update the instrument cluster software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Feb. 7, 2025.

Ford

  • Recall Number: 24S76

  • Vehicles: 2023-2024 F-150 Lightning

  • Potential Units Affected: 11,922

  • Component: Suspension

  • Breakdown: The front upper control arm ball joint nut may not have been tightened properly, allowing the front upper control arm to detach from the knuckle assembly.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect the upper control arm ball joint nut, and replace the nut and/or knuckle assembly, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Feb. 3, 2025. 

General Motors

  • Recall Number: This recall is an expansion of NHTSA Recall 24V-060

  • Vehicles: 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD 2500, 3500, and GMC Sierra HD 2500, 3500 vehicles equipped with power-unlatching tailgates.

  • Potential Units Affected: 131,231

  • Component: Latches/locks/linkages

  • Breakdown: The tailgate's electronic gate-release switch may short circuit due to water intrusion, which can result in the tailgate inadvertently unlatching while the vehicle is in park.

  • Solution: Owners are advised to check that the tailgate is closed and latched before driving. Dealers will replace the exterior touchpad switch assemblies, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed Dec. 17, 2024.

Tesla

  • Recall Number: SB-24-00-018

  • Vehicles: 2024 Cybertruck, 2017-2025 Model 3, and 2020-2025 Model Y 

  • Potential Units Affected: 696,281

  • Component: Tires

  • Breakdown: The tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) warning light may not remain illuminated between drive cycles, failing to warn the driver of low tire pressure. 

  • Solution: Tesla released an over-the-air (OTA) software update, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Feb. 15, 2025.

Medium- & Heavy-Duty Recalls

Altec

  • Recall Number: CSN-3199

  • Vehicles: 1995-1996 AM and AN aerial devices

  • Potential Units Affected: 158

  • Component: Equipment

  • Breakdown: The hydraulic cylinder head gland may have been improperly manufactured, which can result in it detaching from the barrel of the cylinder while under load, leaving the lower boom unsupported.

  • Solution: Owners should inspect the cylinder and confirm that the cylinder matches the part number and serial number list. If the unit has an affected cylinder, the owner should remove the unit from service or replace the cylinder. If an owner chooses to keep a recalled unit in service, Altec will offer a kit the owner can purchase, and install at their own expense. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Jan. 17, 2025.

International

  • Recall Number: N/A

  • Vehicles: 2022-2025 HX 

  • Potential Units Affected: 57

  • Component: Service brakes, air

  • Breakdown: The service brake may take longer than expected to release.

  • Solution: International will install larger air lines or a quick release valve (QRV) as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Jan. 13, 2025.

  • Recall Number: N/A

  • Vehicles: 2025 EMV

  • Potential Units Affected: 22

  • Component: Visibility

  • Breakdown: A circuit breaker may be missing, causing the defrosting system to be inoperative.

  • Solution: Dealers will install a 5A circuit breaker and a label, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Jan. 25, 2025.

McNeilus

  • Recall Number: N/A

  • Vehicles: 2024 Atlantic and Zero Radius Side Loader vehicles equipped with certain Agility Fuel Solutions CNG Fuel Systems

  • Potential Units Affected: 15

  • Component: Fuel system, other

  • Breakdown: The manual cylinder valves may develop stress corrosion cracks in the bottom plugged port, causing a leak.

  • Solution: Agility will replace the valves, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Jan. 17, 2025, by Agility.

Mitsubishi Fuso

  • Recall Number: C10131

  • Vehicles: 2024 FEC7K and FEC9K Rizon

  • Potential Units Affected: 243

  • Component: Electrical system

  • Breakdown: Excessive current may damage the circuit and cause the vehicle control unit to malfunction, resulting in a loss of drive power.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect and replace any discolored or deformed connectors as necessary and install a sub harness, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for owner notifications.

  • Recall Number: N/A

  • Vehicles: 2016-2020 FEC52, FEC72, and FEC92

  • Potential Units Affected: 224

  • Component: Suspension

  • Breakdown: The rear leaf spring may break.

  • Solution: Dealers will replace the leaf spring assembly, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification.

Oshkosh

  • Recall Number: N/A

  • Vehicles: 2022-2023 S-Series

  • Potential Units Affected: 571

  • Component: Vehicle speed control

  • Breakdown: The throttle pedal assembly may contain an oversized magnet carrier, slowing the responsiveness or causing the pedal to stick.

  • Solution: Oshkosh will replace the throttle pedal, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Feb. 7, 2025. 

Paccar

  • Recall Number: 24KWL and 24PBL

  • Vehicles: 021-2025 Peterbilt and Kenworth vehicles, equipped with Bendix EC80 Advanced Electronic Control Units

  • Potential Units Affected: 220,972

  • Component: Service brakes, hydraulic, electrical system

  • Breakdown: Electrical noise and low signal to the power line carrier may cause the ECU to incorrectly process commands or stop functioning.

  • Solution: Dealers will reprogram the ECU software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Feb. 7, 2025.

  • Recall Number: 24KWJ and 24PBJ

  • Vehicles: 2024 Peterbilt 537, 2024-2025 Kenworth T380, T480, Peterbilt 548, and 2025 Peterbilt 536 trucks, equipped with certain Meritor 10-16K and 18-23K front steer drive axles.

  • Potential Units Affected: 29

  • Component: Powertrain

  • Breakdown: The front steer drive axles may have insufficient wheel bearing lubricant.

  • Solution: Dealers will inspect and repair the wheel end with new parts and lubricate the bearings as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Jan. 24, 2025. 

  • Recall Number: 24KWK and 24PBK

  • Vehicles: 2024 Peterbilt 367, 389, 548, Kenworth T480, T800, 2024-2025 Peterbilt 520, 567 and Kenworth T880 vehicles with PACCAR 20k steer axles. 

  • Potential Units Affected: 68

  • Component: Steering

  • Breakdown: The steering arm and/or tie rod bracket fasteners may fail, resulting in a loss of steering control.

  • Solution: Dealers will install new correctly torqued fasteners, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Feb. 1, 2025.
