Firestone Airide, a company owned by Bridgestone Americas, introduced the Firestone Air Command dual-path control for air helper springs at the 2024 King of the Hammers event. This new technology allows drivers to wirelessly control air helper springs from a physical remote or a smartphone app designed for iOS and Android devices. The Air Command system was created to make towing and hauling easier, safer, and more comfortable for users.

Did you know that Firestone invented the air-spring technology in 1938, which was 86 years ago?

The latest invention, Air Command, is a smartphone app or wireless remote that allows users to control air helper springs. The app provides live system monitoring and enables users to make adjustments on the fly. It offers both single-path and dual-path controls.

With the dual-path control option, Air Command can inflate left and right air helper springs separately, which helps to balance out uneven loads.

“With remote and app-based wireless dual-path controls and robust product offering, Airide will change how people think about towing and hauling,” said Justin Monaghan, President of Firestone Airide. “We are excited for heavy-load towers and haulers, like the racers and spectators at King of the Hammers, to test out Air Command for themselves.”

Leveling out the vehicle’s suspension while towing and reducing sag has more than visual benefits. Leveling the suspension helps:

  • Increase steering control
  • Levels headlights
  • Enhances ride comfort
  • Balances heavy loads
  • Prevents cargo from bottoming out
  • Can add trailer braking efficiency
