SPX Service Solutions announced the availability of the new SPX Power Xpress charge station for electric vehicles, a compact, pluggable wall-mount unit designed to fit the confined spaces of garages worldwide.
"Electric vehicle owners and dealerships have expressed the need for a compact charging unit that can be unplugged and moved, and that can stand up to the rigors of a typical garage environment," said Tanvir Arfi, President of SPX Service Solutions. "The SPX Power Xpress charge station is an innovative solution designed to meet all those needs."
In North American garage environments equipped for 240 volts, the charge station refreshes a typical electric vehicle battery to a full charge in about four hours. The SPX Power Xpress charge station is also designed for global use, and SPX Service Solutions is prepared to support automotive manufacturers as new plug standards and plans for new electric vehicle platforms are launched in Europe and Asia.
SPX Service Solutions offers a one-stop shopping solution, managing all aspects of home charging, including home surveys, equipment selection, installations, permitting, utility coordination, post installation services and technical support, as well as advising customers of special programs and incentives.
The SPX Power Xpress charge station is certified by Intertek, a testing laboratory, to U.S. and Canadian electrical product safety standards and bears the C-ETL-US mark. Product certification of the Power Xpress charge station is underway for Europe, where it is expected by the third quarter of 2011.
At 14 by 5 by 4 inches (36 by 13 by 10 centimeters), the compact unit's enclosure is about the size of a shoebox and is manufactured to the 4x standard of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). This means the unit can withstand rigorous garage environments exposed to blowing water, rain, snow and dust, and can be mounted in external environments. The charge station can also be unplugged and moved, and can handle multiple amperage requirements of installations in home and professional situations.
Information about the SPX Power Xpress charge station and SPX home charging installation are available at www.homecharging.spx.com, or through the SPX Electric Vehicle Support Call Center at 1-877-805-EVSE (3873).
