Iowa Mold Tooling Co. Inc. (IMT) introduced new and improved mid-range articulating cranes. The 9 tm, 10 tm, 11 tm and 12 tm IMT models have been enhanced with new options, features, and ratings to meet unique application needs. With superior lift and reach capabilities and reduced weight, the new cranes offer customers increased productivity and payload capacity.

The 9/65, 10/72, 11/78, and 12/86 cranes have ratings ranging from 65,100 foot-pounds (9 tm) to 86,075 foot-pounds (11.9 tm) and maximum lift capacities from 8,380 pounds (3,800 kilograms) to 10,230 pounds (4,640 kilograms). New features include SL (single link) or DL (dual link) options, 15-degree “overbending” and weight reduced by 10 to 15 percent from previous models. Each crane can be fitted with up to five hydraulic extensions to provide application-specific reach.

One of the most significant changes to the range is the addition of the SL (single link) or DL (dual link) options. The options offer customers distinct advantages depending on their specific lifting needs.

The single-power plus link-arm system:

  • Provides high lifting capacity when the boom system is fully extended

  • Offers great strength, regular speed and flexibility in the outer boom combined with high speed in the main boom’s extreme positions at the column

  • Is suited for loading and unloading tasks at a low height far away from the vehicle

  • Features high speed in extreme positions at the mast, which makes the boom system ideal for fast-grab work

  • Allows cranes with the link arm on the outer boom to work particularly well with the stretched boom system at moderate height and at long reach

The dual-power plus link-arm system:

  • Offers the best lifting capacities under all conditions

  • Provides precise and regular movements in the entire working area

  • Is particularly well-suited for long reaches and lifting in high positions with demanding equipment (such as fly-jib and winch)

  • Enables the crane to solve many different lifting tasks and is an ideal all-around crane

  • Works particularly well with the stretch boom system at any height and any reach

New crane models, ratings and maximum lift capacities are as follows:

Model

Crane rating

Maximum lift

9/65 SL

65,100 ft-lb (9 tm)

8,380 lb (3,800 kg)

9/65 DL

63,650 ft-lb (8.8 tm)

9,040 lb (4,100 kg)

10/72 SL

72,330 ft-lb (10 tm)

9,280 lb (4,210 kg)

10/72 DL

70,160 ft-lb (9.7 tm)

9,945 lb (4,510 kg)

11/78 SL

77,395 ft-lb (10.7 tm)

9,170 lb (4,160 kg)

11/78 DL

76,670 ft-lb (10.6 tm)

9,280 lb (4,210 kg)

12/86 SL

86,075 ft-lb (11.9 tm)

10,165 lb (4,610 kg)

12/86 DL

84,625 ft-lb (11.7 tm)

10,230 lb (4,640 kg)

Another new feature of the cranes is “overbending,” which means the working area between the main boom and the jib is no less than 195°. Overbending offers: greater flexibility when working through narrow passages and under overhead obstructions; the ability to lift maximum loads in all boom positions; and, a lower total height when the crane is stowed on the truck body.

The new cranes feature ultra-high tensile steel, which provides lower weight, high lift capacity at long reaches and increased payload capabilities. The mounting space required has been reduced to 2 feet 5 inches (0.8 meters).

A key feature standard on all IMT articulating crane models is the RCL (rated capacity limiter) 5300. The RCL system monitors the crane’s load moment, operation and function. In an overload situation, the system warns the operator and interrupts the distribution of oil for crane functions, while allowing functions that reduce load moment to remain operational. The RCL 5300 cooperates with the user and compensates when the RCL senses a situation requiring intervention.

Additional features of the new articulating crane models include:

  • A radio remote control equipped with an information center that controls stabilizer functions and feedback of loader operation conditions

  • Rack and pinion rotation

  • An internal hose routing system

  • Optional stabilizer solutions

  • An innovative, flexible stow bracket design that secures boom for transportation but does not allow bracket damage

Additional features of all IMT articulating cranes include:

  • A strong hexagonal profile.

  • Load-holding valves on all load-bearing cylinders.

  • An extension system equipped with a regeneration valve to increase working speed.

  • High resale value.

The enhanced cranes join the other IMT articulating crane models, which offer excellent lift-to-weight ratios and long-reach capabilities. The complete IMT articulating crane lineup has a maximum reach ranging from 10 feet 2 inches to 70 feet 10 inches and offers lift capacities ranging from 1,740 pounds (790 kilograms) to 38,185 pounds (17,320 kilograms) maximum rating.
