Particulate matter from diesel exhaust falls out of suspension during the cooling process and will constrict or plug the EGR valve, EGR Runners and the air intake manifold. When carbon builds up in a diesel’s induction system, you have a diesel gasping for air. And carbon buildup can completely plug the EGR in less than 20,000 miles. This aggravates already existing drivability problems of rough idling, hard starting and poor fuel economy.
