While enthusiasts refer to the first Mustangs as 1964 1/2 models, the automaker designated them as 1965 vehicles.

This 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback is nicknamed Stacey. It's owned by Martin Christensen, president of the Mustang Club of Denmark.

Gail Wise reportedly purchased the first Ford Mustang, a convertible model seen in front of her house during the summer of 1964.

For the 1974 model year, Ford released the Mustang II after Lee Iacocca, then Ford president, ordered a more fuel-efficient model.

The 1976 Mustang II King Cobra was offered only with a V-8 to bolster the car's performance image.

The 1979 third-generation Mustang was redesigned based on the longer Fox platform. The Cobra trim level seen here was offered from 1979–81 and 1989–1993.
