Navigation Technologies, a provider of digital maps for vehicle navigation, Internet/wireless, government and business solutions, on Oct. 14 announced that NAVTECH(R) Maps are powering the new HP iPAQ Navigation System. With NAVTECH premium data "giving it direction," HP's wireless portable navigation system offers users route guidance nationwide from one destination to another. Some key features of the iPAQ Navigation System that are enabled by NAVTECH Maps include:

  • Voice prompted address-to-address, turn-by-turn directions

  • Voice, text and graphic instructions

  • Dynamic route guidance making automatic re-routing possible

  • Millions of convenient points of interest covering 46 categories such as local ATMs, gas stations, parking and restaurants

  • Real-time tracking and detailed street maps

  • Important road network information like one-way streets, turn restrictions and speed categories

The solution brings together HP's technology and NAVTECH Maps to create a totally portable (from your car to your briefcase), totally wireless (Bluetooth(TM) enabled) GPS enabled package. "The result is the transformation of an HP iPAQ Pocket PC into a sophisticated personal navigation system, bringing increased functionality and utility to the PDA," according to Navigation Technologies. The product package contains a Bluetooth wireless GPS receiver, software, and maps of the United States and Canada. The HP iPAQ Navigation System was specifically designed to meet the location-sensitive needs of both the mobile consumer and the mobile professional," said Rick Roesler, dDirector, handheld product marketing at HP. "Combining HP's industry-leading iPAQ technology with NAVTECH Maps enables users to simplify their lives, getting them where they need to go, faster and more easily."
