Honda Leads Winners of IntelliChoice Best-Value Awards
Hondas won eight of 29 categories and Fords snared five awards with Toyota and Mercedes-Benz tying at three each among the IntelliChoice Best-Value Awards announced Feb. 7 at the Chicago Auto Show. IntelliChoice, a California data firm, focuses on total ownership costs over five years to help predict financial winners and losers. It gives yearly awards to the best values. IntelliChoice picks winners by comparing expected five-year ownership costs for all vehicles in a price class. The winner is the one that has the lowest five-year costs among its price peers -- even if its costs total far more than a vehicle in some other price class. For example, the Toyota Land Cruiser sport utility vehicle, starting at about $54,000, and the Honda Civic HX economy coupe, starting at about $14,000, both get best-value awards. Land Cruiser is best-value SUV priced more than $27,000. Civic HX is best-value car less than $22,500. The six overall winners: * Mercedes-Benz E320 sedan -- Best-value car more than $22,500. * Honda Civic HX coupe -- Best-value car less than $22,500. * Toyota Land Cruiser 4WD -- Best-value SUV more than $27,000. * Honda CR-V 4WD -- Best-value SUV less than $27,000. * GMC Sierra C1500 extended cab 2WD -- Best-value pickup more than $22,000. * Nissan Frontier XE extended cab 2WD -- Best-value pickup less than $22,000. IntelliChoice publishes The Complete Car Cost Guide and The Complete Small Truck Cost Guide yearly. For more information, visit www.intellichoice.com.
