With the car-deer crash season upon us, drivers across the country are swerving to avoid the large animals and crashing their vehicles in the process. Experts say if it's inevitable that you're going to hit a deer, just hit it. According to the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments, there were 1,216 reported car-deer crashes in the county of Livingston alone last year. These crashes can be expensive and sometimes deadly, 12 people died last year in Michigan due to car-deer crashes. Recently, a Prineville, Ore. man escaped injury when he swerved to avoid a deer and lost control of his car, which struck a large rock on the shoulder and overturned, KTVZ reports. In Janesville, Wisc. recently, seven different vehicle collisions with deer were reported in a single day. Fortunately, none of the motorists involved in the collisions were injured but damage to the vehicles ranged from minor to severe, according to the Janesville Gazette. A Wausau, Wisc. attorney was killed Monday when the vehicle he was driving struck a deer. The man was traveling westbound when an eastbound vehicle hit a deer that ran out of a ditch on the south side of the road. The impact sent the deer flying into the attorney’s windshield, Gannett Wisconsin Newspapers reports.
