The 2015 Ford Expedition large SUV will arrive with a new 3.5L direct-injected twin-turbo V-6 EcoBoost engine, the automaker announced Tuesday.

The engine for the vehicle, making its debut at the DFW Auto Show in Dallas, is the same one that has been a popular choice in Ford F-150 pickup trucks. Dallas and Houston are Ford's leading markets for the vehicle.

Ford is touting its refreshed large SUV as the "most powerful, fuel-efficient Expedition ever." The new EcoBoost engine replaces the 5.4L V-8 offered in previous model years. The automaker hasn't released fuel economy ratings or pricing.

The Expedition has been a leading fleet vehicle among large SUVs. During calendar-year 2012, commercial fleets added 3,093, while government fleets added 1,866 and rental fleets added 7,177.

In the government sector, the vehicle is often used by public safety agencies and equipped with Ford's special service package that includes a column shifter, deleted center console, and vinyl floor, said Tony Gratson, Ford's government sales manager.

The vehicle's size makes it suited for use as a K-9 vehicle, fire incident command vehicle, and mobile weights-and-measures vehicle for commercial truck enforcement.

When the 2015 Expedition arrives at dealerships later this year, it will also be offered in new Platinum Series and King Ranch editions. The vehicle will be built in Louisville, Ky.
