The National Safety Council's Road to Zero Coalition has started accepting applications for its third annual grant competition for innovative solutions to making the nation's roadways safer and eliminating preventable fatalities.

Known as the 2019 Safe System Innovation Grants, all funds awarded go toward assisting the recipients in realizing their unique projects, which are aimed at helping to achieve the Coalition's mission of zero roadway fatalities by 2050.

To successfully apply for a grant, organizations are expected to submit a comprehensive proposal with quantifiable goals and measurable results. Applicants must explain how their program will reduced roadway crashes, set a timeframe for the reduction, outline methods for evaluating the program, and explain how the organization plans to communicate and motivate its target audience.

The application process takes place from now through Jan. 25. Winners will be announced in the spring.
