Analyzing data can improve operations, safety, uptime, profits, and more, but for a lot of fleets the hardest question to answer is where to begin?
With just a week to go until the much-debated electronic logging device rule kicks in on Dec. 18, HDT asked top officials of two trucking associations that have been outspoken in their support or criticism of the far-reaching mandate to weigh in on several key aspects.
The ability to access or analyze big data, especially in real-time as it streams in, can have an enormous impact on fleet safety, particularly if it is used to predict the onset of an event or provide insight into how to transform a process or an operation.

With less than six weeks until the Dec. 18 deadline for fleets to install mandatory electronic logging devices, it looks like there will still be a lot of smaller fleets who will be at risk for citations and fines – or who will give up on the industry altogether.
