A number of electric off-highway trucks were launched in 2018. While lithium is important to battery technology production, chemistry and vehicle architecture are also critical. More than 100 confirmed electric and hybrid bus and truck projects involving thousands of vehicles are slated to begin by 2020.
In 2017, Americans consumed only 0.006% less gasoline than they did in 2016, averaging about 9.2 million barrels a day. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, this will increase minimally to 9.33 million barrels a day this year and 9.4 million in 2019.
The U.S. leads the world in electric and hybrid truck orders with more than 50% of all purchases.
