Without EV charging solutions, the average utility must invest thousands of dollars in grid upgrades per EV.

To support utilities and consumers with increased EV charging capabilities, Rhythmos announced the commercial deployment of its mobility and utility network management platform in East Tennessee, which is sponsored by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).

Knoxville Utilities Board will be the first utility system to implement Rhythmos’ predictive analytics software solution to provide data such as:

  • EV detection.
  • Charging characterization.
  • Day-ahead forecasting.
  • Transformer loading.

Rhythmos’ data offers d visibility into the electric grid and will allow KUB to identify, quantify, forecast, and control EV charging needs to minimize grid impact. This data also informs operational planning, procurement, and rate design.

Rhythmos Software Powers Up Electric Vehicle Infrastructure in State

Thanks to the support of EPRI's Incubatenergy Labs program, this project represents a stride in advancing EV infrastructure within the state.

James Linder, the program manager of innovation scouting for TVA, emphasized, "Today's utilities are fully committed to bolstering electric mobility and addressing the growing demand for charging solutions in tandem with the rapid expansion of the EV industry. TVA's dedication to collaborating with local power companies to ensure consistent and reliable service involves investments in technologies that align with our customers' evolving requirements. We are excited to contribute to our community by sponsoring this intelligent charging deployment partnership between KUB and Rhythmos."

A standout feature of the Rhythmos solution is its ability to conduct comprehensive load analysis on each distribution service transformer in KUB's distribution system.

This encompasses a meticulous assessment of the impact of EV charging on these service transformers.

By leveraging data from KUB's 250,000 Advanced Metering Infrastructure meters and Geographic Information System data, Rhythmos will meticulously detect EV charging points within the distribution system.

Furthermore, based on historical meter data, Rhythmos will analyze EV charging behavior, including frequency and time of day. This will provide KUB with unparalleled insights into EV charging load projections for the following day.

Modular And Scalable Solution for Utilities

Rhythmos earned the opportunity for this deployment demonstration with KUB by being one of only 16 companies selected for EPRI's 2023 IEL Cohort.

EPRI meticulously evaluated Rhythmos' energy management analytics and algorithm performance, focusing on its effectiveness in EV detection and day-ahead forecasting.

The assessment will also explore the potential impact on utility rates, culminating in a comprehensive report outlining the rate implications of the proposed solutions. The outcomes of this partnership will be presented on November 1st at EPRI's Incubatenergy Demo Day.

Rhythmos offers a completely modular and scalable solution for the utilities and EV charging management sector, facilitating seamless integration with existing systems.

Rhythmos recently announced a collaborative effort with Driivz to expedite fleet electrification by optimizing charging schedules through the Driivz platform, which already manages tens of thousands of charging points globally.
