European Utility to Electrify Entire 3,500 Vehicle Fleet

February 7, 2017

Vattenfall is switching its entire light-duty fleet to battery-electric vehicles, according to the Swedish utility company. The utility, which serves parts of Sweden, the Netherlands, and Germany, will replace its entire fleet of passenger vehicles and light commercial vehicles over a five-year period.

In January, the utility began to electrify its fleet of 1,700 vehicles in Sweden, 1,100 Germany, and 750 in the Netherlands. These include passenger cars, technical support vehicles, and maintenance vans.

This is part of the utility's goal to be carbon-neutral by 2050, and in line with the European Union's plan to reduce transportation emissions 60% by 2050. As part of its sustainability measures, Vattenfall also operates nearly 6,000 electric vehicle charging stations across its service area.
