Florida Power & Light (FPL) is upgrading its communications system for field employees. The utility is partnering with Florida-based Harris Corporation to upgrade its legacy analog radio communications system.

The P25 digital network solution will include command center dispatch consoles, advanced digital handheld radios, and the BeOn group-communications app. It will allow the utility to coordinate efforts with first responders and other safety teams during emergency responses and hurricane season. Full installation will be completed in 2018.

FPL is the third largest electric utility in the country, serving approximately 10 million customers in 35 counties.
