In another accident involving an San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) driver, on Jan. 22, a 37-year-old mother of four was struck by one of the utility’s pickup trucks and later taken to UCSD Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, according to CBS8.

This accident is in addition to another in which a driver recently plead not guilty in a fatal hit-and-run case.

The victim, Ana Herrera Rodriguez, was walking across the street with her five-year-old daughter and four-year-old neighbor when they were struck. Rodriguez was reportedly pinned down underneath the truck.

While the investigation is still ongoing, police have said that the accident was likely due to distracted driving, according to NBC7.

Rodriguez leaves behind her husband and four children. The utility expressed its condolences to her family in a Jan. 22 statement:

“The circumstances of this accident are under investigation and SDG&E is cooperating fully with authorities. This is a devastating accident and our hearts and prayers go out to the family of the victim. Safety is at the foundation of who we are as a company – from initial employee training to the construction, operation and maintenance of our facilities and the service provided to our customers. We are holding a safety stand down with employees to underscore our commitment to employee and public safety."

Both young girls are out of the hospital.
