STAMFORD, CT – Clean Diesel Technologies, Inc., a global company providing innovative technologies and solutions that reduce emissions, conserve fuel, and improve engine performance, has signed a worldwide, non-exclusive licensing agreement with Tenneco, a $4.7-billion company that designs, manufactures, and markets emission control and ride control products and systems for the automotive original equipment market and the aftermarket.

Under the terms of the latest agreement, Clean Diesel will receive upfront fees and per-unit royalties. Tenneco also acquired from Clean Diesel the assignment of a license for mobile retrofit emission control applications in on-road and off-road vehicles, and for other markets including railroad and marine.

These license agreements — which Tenneco entered into in connection with its recent acquisition of the mobile emissions business of Combustion Components Associates, Inc. (CCA) — cover mobile applications for Clean Diesel’s ARIS airless reagent injection system and technology, which controls nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions through selective catalytic reduction (SCR), and the related suite of Clean Diesel patents. The licenses also include applications for hydrocarbon injection for lean NOx traps and for other NOx adsorbers and catalysts, as well as for diesel particulate filter regeneration.

The new agreement licenses Tenneco to work with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and to serve as the Tier One supplier and systems integrator for emissions solutions, combining Tenneco’s proprietary products and technologies with ARIS. The suite of licensed patents includes Clean Diesel’s exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) technique used in combination with SCR to minimize engine emissions while simultaneously improving fuel efficiency.
