COLUMBUS, IN – J&R Schugel Trucking has ordered 300 trucks powered by Cummins ISX engines and equipped with Cummins ComfortGuard auxiliary power unit (APU) systems, which Cummins began producing for the marketplace eight months ago.

ComfortGuard is Cummins first complete auxiliary power unit system for over-the-road trucks. The system combines the technology from the Cummins Onan generator with tailored HVAC components to power all hotel loads for comfort and convenience. The system offers an effective solution to anti-idling regulations and the high cost of diesel fuel.

“Reducing emissions is important for our environment. Increasing fuel economy and vehicle reliability are important for our bottom line,” said Rick Schugel, president of J&R Schugel Trucking. “Keeping our drivers comfortable and alert is important for safety. Spec’ing the ISX 435 ST, together with the ComfortGuard APU, helps us achieve all those goals.”

The Cummins ComfortGuard APU system can pay for itself in about 18 months or less through reduced engine idling. In addition, its unique plug-and-play design reduces the cost of installation by up to one-half while lowering fuel costs and reducing wear and tear on the main engine.
