WASHINGTON, D.C. – A U.S. Senate bill (S. 894) has been introduced by Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) that provides a 25 percent tax credit up to $1,000 for the installation of idle reduction technology on diesel trucks.

Senator Lincoln’s bill will help improve energy efficiency in long-haul trucks, reduce pollution and assist trucking companies having to comply with state-mandated reductions in diesel emissions caused by idling. The bill will also serve to unify government and industry in working to further protect the environment.

Original co-sponsors of the bill include Senator Ken Salazar (D-CO); Senator Jim Bunning (R-KY); and Senator Jeff Bingaman (D-NM), chairman of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee. All four Senators currently serve on the Finance Committee which has jurisdiction over tax legislation.
