Rocky Mountain Power is the number one utility in the country when it comes to safety. The 2013 Edison Electric Institute’s (EEI) Safety Survey ranked the company first for lowest OSHA recordable rate and lowest number of incidents which restricted employees from performing fully duty in their job classification.

“This is a remarkable achievement that truly shows Rocky Mountain Power employees are looking out for their own safety and the well-being of their co-workers,” said Michael Felice, Rocky Mountain Power Director of Safety and Labor Relations.

The national survey included 44 transmission and utility companies. Rocky Mountain Power also came in third place for the number of lost time days due to an injury or illness.

EEI looks at the safety standards set by OSHA. Rocky Mountain Power ranked even better when it was compared to their peer group of companies with similar numbers of employees and hours worked:

  • #1 with the lowest OSHA recordable rate (an injury or illness requiring medical treatment)

  • #1 with the lowest restricted duty rate (an injury or illness restricting an employee from performing full duty in their job classification)

  • #1 with the fewest number of lost time days (due to an injury or illness)

  • #1 with the lowest Preventable Vehicle Accident rate per million miles

“We have a responsibility to keep our customers and the public safe around our facilities and while we are providing service,” added Felice. “Our employees working on the front lines have a real commitment to safety.”

This is the first number one ranking for Rocky Mountain Power in this survey, but the company has appeared in the top 25% and 10% of the EEI survey since 2008.
