Chrysler’s Ram Truck brand plans to offer a small-displacement diesel engine for its 2014 model-year Ram 1500 pickup truck. The automaker said the engine will be a new 3.0L V-6 EcoDiesel and Ram Truck plans to match this engine with an eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission.
The automaker noted that its new diesel engine produces far less emissions than diesel engines from years past, at 60% fewer emissions than those from 25 years ago. Ram Truck added that the EcoDiesel engine will further improve the Ram 1500’s fuel economy. VM Motori, a Chrysler Group diesel engine supplier, manufactures the new EcoDiesel engine.
Chrysler noted that the 2013-MY Ram 1500 received a number of honors and awards, including Motortrend's Truck of the Year, the North American Truck of the Year, and the Truck of Texas.
