CLIFTON PARK, NY - Delmar, part of Cengage Learning and a provider of learning solutions for ongoing career development and education, announced the availability of Diesel Engines and Drive Train, two new online courses in the Professional Truck Technician Training Series for professional technicians.

The new Diesel Engine course covers tool and equipment safety, engine fundamentals and operation, induction and exhaust systems, diesel fuel and fuel subsystems, as well as a variety of other topics. The Drive Train course covers general shop safety, clutch function and components, standard and automatic transmissions, transmission servicing, heavy-duty truck axles, and axle service and repair.

With the Professional Truck Technician Training Series medium and heavy duty trucking technicians receive more than 8.5 hours of quality instruction that can be completed at their own pace. The courses in the series are the only online courses on the market to address the educational needs of the truck technician. They are also available in CD-ROM allowing technicians to choose their preferred format for training.

The courses combine theory, diagnosis and repair information into one easy-to-use training tool, and provide technicians with an interactive solution that improves efficiency and increases comprehension. These courses require that technicians engage with the course content, while animations and interactive elements are used to help explain complex processes. Periodic process checks and end-of-section review questions ensure users are retaining information as they work through the material. A comprehensive exam is conducted after the user completes all sections of the course, and those who achieve a score of 80 percent or higher are awarded a printable certificate of completion.

The courses in the Professional Technician Training Series, which also include the Professional Automotive Technician Training Series, were designed to follow both the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) and Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) content guidelines, guaranteeing quality education that meets industry standards. In addition, the courses are Aviation Industry CBT (Computer-Based Training) Committee (AICC) and Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) compliant, ensuring they meet recognized standards for web-based e-learning.

"In this difficult economy, many fleet managers have been forced to cut back on in-person technician training, making the online Professional Truck Technician Training Series an even more valuable tool for ensuring technicians are up to date on current techniques and standards," said Kristen Davis, Director of Professional Transportation Industry Solutions, Delmar. "In addition, fleet managers have the option of purchasing courses as-is or can choose to customize course content, graphics, animations and review questions to meet the needs of their staff."

Are You Tracking Your Fleet's True Total Cost of Ownership?

Bobit Business Media surveyed 190 fleet professionals and found that while most fleets are tracking costs, fragmented systems and data gaps are keeping true TCO visibility out of reach. With rising pressure to control spend in an increasingly volatile environment, the gap between what fleets think they know and what the data actually shows is wider than you might expect. See how your peers are managing costs today and where the industry still has room to improve.
