DALLAS - Western Star Truck Sales, Inc., announced the availability of the groundbreaking Detroit Diesel DD15 engine. Introduced in late 2007, the DD15 features best-in-class fuel economy and incredible torque response as well as industry-leading power and performance.

The DD15 will provide outstanding horsepower and improved torque performance for targeted Western Star vocational market segments. The DD15 delivers up to 5 percent better fuel economy than the Series 60 largely due to its turbo compounding technology and Amplified Common Rail Fuel System (ACRS).

Turbo compounding, which turns wasted exhaust gas into useable power producing up to 50 bonus horsepower without sacrificing fuel economy, is available only in the DD15. Its ACRS fuel delivery system teams up with DDEC(r) VI electronics to create an optimized combustion event resulting in a quiet, refined operation. The DD15 will also launch a Western Star truck up to 90-percent peak torque in 1.5 seconds because of its simple and reliable turbocharger and dual overhead cams.

"The combination of Western Star trucks and the DD15 results in a long-lasting, tough and reliable tool that is ready to take on the most demanding applications," said Rich Shearing, manager of product strategy for Western Star. "Western Star customers expect the highest quality at every turn, and the DD15 delivers."

The DD15 is tailored to North America's EPA '07 emissions regulations, and its advanced design means that with the addition of BlueTEC SCR technology it is also ready for upcoming EPA 2010 standards. The DD15 is the first of three all-new engines Detroit Diesel will be introducing between now and 2010. In time, engines sharing this design will be available globally in all Daimler Trucks heavy-duty models. The DD15's six-cylinder, in-line design is available in output and torque variants from 455 hp to 560 hp and 1,550 to 1,850 lb.-ft., including dual torque ratings for special applications.

The DD15 will be on display at the Great American Trucking Show in the Western Star booth #18128. For more information, and to find a local dealer, visit www.WesternStar.com or call (866) 850-STAR (7827).

Are You Tracking Your Fleet's True Total Cost of Ownership?

Bobit Business Media surveyed 190 fleet professionals and found that while most fleets are tracking costs, fragmented systems and data gaps are keeping true TCO visibility out of reach. With rising pressure to control spend in an increasingly volatile environment, the gap between what fleets think they know and what the data actually shows is wider than you might expect.
