Ironman Tires today added the I-31M, I-42W, I-28D, and I-52A to its I-Series Gen 2 portfolio of commercial vehicle tires. The new series is a completely upgraded full line of tires.
In simplest terms, rolling resistance is the amount of energy a tire uses over a specific distance. But what does this mean to work truck fleets, and what can fleet managers do about it?
Rather than go with an off-the-shelf tire, the Cummins/Peterbilt SuperTruck II team is bringing Bridgestone on board to develop an ultra-low rolling resistance tire. The goal is a 30% reduction in rolling-resistance which equates to a 6% improvement in fuel economy.
The factors driving tire design for medium-duty trucks has changed. Today, tire makers must balance fuel efficiency and bulletproof durability to stand up to a harsh P&D environment.
