EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND – A study at The University of Edinburgh measured the effects of diesel exhaust on heart and blood vessel function on 20 men who had previously suffered a heart attack, according to the Web site www.kxan.com.

The men exposed to diesel exhaust experienced reduced blood flow and difficulties breaking up blood clots. Doctors said this study is no reason to give up daily workouts.

“I think the message is that when we do exercise, choose an environment away from roads that have diesel exhaust or other noxious fumes and to do it at a time of day or on days when our pollution index is one that’s more favorable,” said Dr. Peter Libby, a preventative cardiologist, according to the Web site www.kxan.com.
