The 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is relaunching with more power and improved fuel economy from the earlier-generation model, as it competes with Chevrolet and Ford models that have entered the fray since it's last iteration.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' diesel-powered 1/2-ton pickup has received an EPA rating of 32 miles per gallon in highway driving, 22 mpg in city driving, and 26 mpg in combined driving when it's set up with a rear-wheel drivetrain.

The vehicle remains highly competitive with the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Duramax and Ford's F-150 Power Stroke that was first introduced as a 2018 model. Earlier this year, Chevrolet's similarly-equipped truck was rated to achieve 29 mpg on the highway, 23 mpg in the city, and 33 mpg combined. Ford's diesel pickup achieves 30 mpg on the highway, 22 mpg in the city, and 25 mpg combined.

The 2020 Ram 1500 diesel pickup opts for higher torque with a 3.0L V-6 that achieves 250 hp and 480 lb.-ft. of torque. The Silverado's 3.0L inline-six-cylinder engine makes 277 hp and 460 lb.-ft., while Ford's 3.0L V-6 turbodiesel acheives 250 hp and 440 lb.-ft. of torque.

FCA has released fuel economy ratings for eight configurations of its 2020 Ram 1500, including the four powertrain options and the 4x4 pickup that comes in at 29 mpg highway, 21 mpg city, and 24 mpg combined. In addition to the diesel engine, the EPA has rated the 3.6L V-6 with mild hybrid technology, 5.7L HEMI V-8, and the V-8 with mild hybrid technology in rear-wheel and 4x4 drive.

The V-8 4x4 achieves 21 mpg highway, 15 mpg city, and 17 mpg combined.
