Fleet FAQ? Fuel Management

Q. What are the development timelines for this bold new connected car future?

A. Well, we’re already there with many of our products. Things like telematics -- collecting the data and helping to reduce accidents and help driver safety, optimizing routes, those kinds of things – have been in our arsenal for a while, about 17 years.

DriverDash is a mobile fuel payments platform now usable at 25,000 US fueling locations, including some of the biggest names: Exxon, Shell, Mobil. It lets you pay for fuel securely without leaving the vehicle and is basically the WEX Fleet card but without the plastic.

So mobile applications are really taking off, and you’re going to see a scrum of new development, partnerships, alliances, start-ups. The pace of change and the pace of technology is faster than it's ever been, yet it's as slow as it's ever going to be.

Q. What is a fuel card? How does it work?

A. Fuel cards were designed to make it easier for businesses to pay when they fuel their vehicles. As fuel cards became more sophisticated, they also began offering businesses discounts and rebates plus the ability to track and analyze fuel purchases, creating the ability to control costs, making it easier to track expenses and enhance the bottom line without carrying cash or relying on inaccurate manual data entry.
