A. There’s actually no “best way” to train drivers. Since every driver is different, the most successful method is a combination of behind-the-wheel, classroom, and online training. Training can be conducted in groups or individually, depending on skill, behavioral trends, or risk level groupings of the drivers.
Group training can be particularly effective when a new policy or vehicle type is added to the fleet. Individual training should be mandatory for a new hire in order to emphasize the safety culture from the very beginning. Individualized training should also be used to address a driver’s specific risky behavior. The most important thing to keep in mind is the frequency of safety messaging, which makes online training one of the most versatile tools available to fleets.
