Ram Truck will offer its current-generation 1500 pickup alongside its new-generation model as a 2019 model with the Classic nomenclature throughout the 2018 calendar year, according to the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles division.
The 2019 Ram 1500 Classic will be known inside the company as the DS model, while the 2019 Ram 1500 will be known as the DT model. The 1500 Classic will be primarily offered to commercial and entry-level buyers, said Mike Manley, head of Ram Brand.
"As we launch the all-new 2019 Ram 1500, we didn’t want to walk away from a key part of the light-duty truck market," Manley said.
The Ram 1500 Classic will include a link-coil suspension, RamBox bedisde storage, hidden bins, a flat-load floor, and the Classic badging on the fenders. It will also offer a regular cab configuation.
The Ram 1500 Classic will be available in four trim grades, including Tradesman, Express, Big Horn/Lone Star, and SSV (Special Service Vehicle) for law enforcement agencies.
Engine choices will include the 3.6L Pentastar V-6, 5.7L Hemi V-8, and 3.0L V-6 EcoDiesel at a later date.
