Fleet FAQ? Fleet Tracking and Telematics

Q. What is an AOBRD?

A. An automatic onboard recording device (AOBRD) is an electronic, electric, or electromechanical device that can accurately record a driver’s duty status. These devices have been available since the late 1980s, and were replaced by more sophisticated electronic logging devices (ELDs) beginning in December 2017.

Drivers and fleets who had an AOBRD device installed in their trucks prior to the ELD rule going into effect will have until December 2019 to transition to a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)-compliant ELD.
